So, I’m working on the blueprints for the back kitchen/coffee bar area, and I keep encountering one stupid column that is in the way of making it a really elegant and efficient design. So I call my husband (aka Contractor Guy) and ask:
Wife: “You know that huge brick column in the back of the building. The one in the middle?”
Husband: “You mean the one holding up the entire second and third floor?”
Wife: “Really? Um. Can we replace it with a steel beam and post?”
Husband: “No.”
Wife: “But…”
Husband: “No.”
Wife: “It’s in the way. I think if we…”
Husband: “No. All of those bricks above it are over 200 years old. If we mess with that column, the entire back of the building could crumble.”
Wife: “That would be bad. So… no?”
Husband: !!
Wife: Dammit. Back to drawing board.
