I understand your confusion over the titles of the first two books of the series. They were originally released with fun long titles in trade paperback format. They became successful in that format, which prompted St. Martin’s Press to want to re-release them in mass market (much like they do with hard covers) to make them more affordable for a wider audience. This discussion occurred in 2008, when ebooks were barely selling one-to-two percent of book sales at the time, so no one thought that the old titles would hang around and haunt the books. Because mass market sized books are naturally smaller, putting a long title plus my three names plus artwork plus a pull quote or blurb on the front of the book proved challenging, and they didn’t feel like the design looked good. [This was also pre-the time when the subway-styled art had had a resurgence in popularity, which I’ve used on the short stories.] To solve the cover dilemma, they opted to change the titles of the first two books. My understanding was that there was going to definitely be a (Bobbie Faye, Book 1) and (Bobbie Faye, Book 2) on the new covers so that anyone who had already purchased the trade paperback versions wouldn’t be misled into thinking the mass market version was a new book. Somehow, that did not happen (though Amazon finally agreed to put it on the description).
Because they’re selling well above the threshold (thank you!) for me to get the rights back, we’re sort of stuck with the shorter titles / new look. I am, however, extremely grateful that SMP let me add stuff back into book one, and a lot of stuff back into book two, when it came time to re-release them.
Since the beginning, I’d planned on writing short stories to fill in the months between books. I’ve managed three so far. I have a fourth one underway. Here’s the chronology of the books/stories:
Bobbie Faye’s Sizzling Bad, Heart Breaking, Can’t Stop Collision with HEAT
(a very very short prequel featuring Cam and Bobbie Faye)
Book 1, titled CHARMED AND DANGEROUS
[originally titled Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day]
Book 2, titled GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE GUNS
[originally titled Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels
Bobbie Faye’s Comically Tragic, Spectacular, Insanely Bad Failure To Communicate
(a short story)
Book 3, titled WHEN A MAN LOVES A WEAPON
Bobbie Faye’s Whacked Out, No Good, Really Sucky, Hot Mess of a Wedding
